Reuben’s Train began as a duo, centred around the songs of Dawn Foster (Room Full of Mirrors, Shallamarra) and the clawhammer banjo playing of Mark Browne - songs with timeless themes of loss and renewal and a deep connection to the natural world. They worked at blending their individual styles of rootsy Americana with the emotional honesty and vulnerability of Dawn’s lyrics and the sheer catchiness of her melodies,creating a haunting and nuanced sound as they toured festivals, theatres and pubs. Upright Bass player Suzanne Ambrose joined the band in 2019, grounding and reinforcing the String Band sound of the trio.
At times delicate, at times pulsing with bluegrass energy, Reuben’s Train play with a quiet confidence, moving effortlessly between gypsy jazz, folk, bluegrass and reggae grooves.
