Discover Crosby Garrett

Event Day(s):

Saturday 27 April: guided walks at 10.30am and 1pm

Discover Crosby Garrett, a traditional Westmorland village that has hardly changed in centuries.

To one side is a high viaduct that takes the Settle to Carlisle railway through the disused Crosby Garrett station with the fell behind. At the other end of the village on a raised elevation is the church of St. Andrew, with its Anglo-Saxon origins this church has later additions and the graveyard was extended in the 1930s. Crosby Garrett originally boasted churches of 3 faiths: Church of England, Baptist and Methodist. The Methodist Chapel built in 1882 united with the Baptists in when their chapel closed in 1992 and is now known as the United Chapel.

Two guided walks will be led by local experts, one exploring the architecture, heritage and history of the village and the other looking at local archaeology.

Both walks will leave the Village Hall at 10.30am and 1pm so you can choose to join one or both as well as enjoying refreshments at the Village Hall, in the building which was formerly the Village School.
